Memorial Day, 2021

Among the many thousands of men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation are thirty-seven EC-47 crewmembers of the Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadrons and the 6994th Security Squadron and its detachments. The In Memoriam tab on the left of the screen will take you to individual tributes to each of these men.

San Angelo American Legion Post 572* has added a new touch to their Memorial Day golf tournament in the form of In Memory Of “yard signs” that will be placed around the golf course. The one shown here honors TSgt Ray Leftwich, who was killed in the shoot-down of Tide 86 in 1967.

Some 60 of these signs will be posted around the course. Click here to view them all. Photos of the IMO signs as actually displayed will be added after the tournament ends.

As an active participant in the Commemorative Partner Program of the Department of Defense’s 50th anniversary commemoration of the Vietnam War, the EC-47 History Site is pleased to play a part in this and other events honoring America’s veterans.

With the end of Covid restrictions finally in sight, we’re working to re-plan the dedication of the Memorial Plaza at Goodfellow AFB. Stay tuned for more on that front. Meanwhile, pavers can still be ordered. Click here for full details of the plaza and on-line order forms.

* There are two Legion posts in San Angelo. Post 32, chartered in 1919 is, like the base nearby, named in honor of Lt. James J. Goodfellow.
